Further, I'm sure SW has had more 'new' intruments and technology thrown at him than any other single musican in the world because he can play (beat, blow or plunk) every class of instrument (although I've never heard him play chello) and can hear his butt off.
Cliff (10/09/2005 11:40:36)
True.
Abu Lo (10/09/2005 11:38:41)
Indeed, however, I was around when Dr. Moog made his first public experiments. I read articles and heard the initial trials. The first users where those who made what was then called experimental music Some 'far out' rock groups also added it for effect, ie the Beatles, but then SW got hold of the system and treated the synth as a musical device rather than an effect and from there Korg and Yamaha and a whole slew of others began making instruments using Dr. Moog's technology, and more. Now, no pop group would dare not enclude it in their ensemble. This is what I understood Dr. Moog wanted; his generators to be able to make pleasent, unique musical sounds even the most critical would enjoy. SW did that.
BIG ANT (10/09/2005 00:47:27)
thanks Dave b I stand corrected.
Cliff (09/09/2005 21:07:04)
Stevie was just one of very many artists in the 70s right up to today who used the moog synth, so I'm not sure Dr Moog ever expected gratitude from any single artist - quite the opposite, I'd have thought.
Abu Lo (09/09/2005 18:48:37)
Does anyone know if Mr. Moog ever thanked SW for making his dream come true?
Mr. 1980 (09/09/2005 18:09:06)

Hey Y'all!

For anyone who didn't already know Steverino will be performing sometime tonight on BET for the "Shelter from the Storm" (I think that's the name) benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina victims. I have no idea what time he'll be on so that means (in my case) having to listen to a bunch of nimrods TRY to sing before I hear Stevie put all of them to shame!

Yo BIG ANT!

That Moog guy died either last week or the week before- not yesterday (9/8/05).

Later,
Summer Soft

Big Ant,
Well said. The Moog synth made up much of Stevie's 70s sound. Think of songs like 'Seems so long', 'Visions', You and I' and others, with those beautiful, meandering synth lines...magic stuff.
BIG ANT (08/09/2005 23:08:10)
a sad day in music,dr.robert moog has died today, the man who invented the MOOG synthersizer, that funky bass sound that we hear on alot of stevie classic albums,I think he gets and honorable mention on this site...thanks mr.moog for blessing us with that sound that stevie used to give us some of the best bass lines ever!!!

Benf,
Stevie sang "Love's in need of Love Today", with Take 6 backing him up. This performance was nominated for a Grammy award.
Alicia Keys sang a moving rendition of Donny Hathaway's "Someday we'll all be Free".
Ben f (06/09/2005 07:30:52)
