BaldEagle (06/09/2005 00:31:16) Mr. 1980- Do you HAVE "Used To Be"??? I'd LOVE to get a copy of that, I've been looking for ages. Cliff (05/09/2005 18:03:47) I just saw Stevie on the World Music Awards. He sang 'Living for the City' with Kid Rock. He's looking well, and put in a nice performance, in spite of fluffing his words again. Still, it's comin' nearer... Mr. 1980 (05/09/2005 14:35:21) Shane Roche, The song you're referring to is "Used To Be", a 1982 duet between Stevie and an R&B singer named Charlene. The song can be found on Charlene's album entitled "Used To Be." Here are the full lyrics: Superman was killed in Dallas There's no love left in the palace Someone took the Beatles lead guitar Have another Chivas Regal You're twelve years old and sex is legal You're parents don't know where or who you are Used to be the hero of the ballgame Took the time to shake the losers hand Used to be that failure only meant you didn't try In a world where people gave a damn Great big wars in little places Look at all those frightened faces But don't come here we just don't have the room Love thy neighbor's wife and daughter Cleanse your life with holy water We don't need to bathe, we've got perfume Used to be a knight in shining armor Didn't have to own a shiny car Dignity and courage were the measure of a man Not the drugs he needs to hide the scar Can your teacher read? Does your preacher pray? Does your president have soul? Have you heard a real good ethnic joke today? Mama took her speed Daddy ran away But you mustn't lose control Let's cut a class, I got some grass The kids are wild we just can't tame 'em Do we have the right to blame 'em We fed 'em all our indecision Raped their minds with television But what the hell, they're too young to feel pain I believe that love can save tomorrow I believe that truth can make us free Someone tried to say it And we nailed him to a cross I guess it's still the way It used to be. BaldEagle (05/09/2005 03:08:27) swonderful, I sent you my email. sifujoel@yahoo.com THANKS!!! shane roche (04/09/2005 21:41:11) can someone please tell me if stevie wonder recorded a song in the very early eighties starting with the lyric " superman was killed in Dallas, there's no love left in the palace, someone stole the beatles lead guitar" I think it was a duet, may have been banned in the uk driving me crazy trying to find it many thanks Shane James (04/09/2005 14:31:18) By the way. The sound quality on these MP3 tracks isnt brilliant. Believe me when I say in my car and on my MP3 player, Nate James and Michael McDonald with his Motown2 album are the 'fullest' sounds I own. Give the Nate James tracks a listen to, and I would be interested to hear what people think. James (04/09/2005 14:19:33) OK. I'm guessing that not a huge number of you have heard of Nate James (especially all of you in America), so here is his website address, where you can listen to some samples of his tracks. http://www.natejames.com/natejamesnews.asp swonderful (04/09/2005 14:10:43) BaldEagle I have it. I will send it to you. My email is gaemangi@yahoo.com BaldEagle (04/09/2005 13:09:52) Does ANYBODY have Stevie's LIVE version of "I CAN SEE THE SUN IN LATE DECEMBER"? Please send it to me! Thanks. Whatever happened... (04/09/2005 12:25:56) to buying music? 'Solid' is available at any music store or as a download. I thought the only tracks we shared on this forum were unreleased/rare ones. Matt-UK (04/09/2005 09:27:15) Does anyone have an MP3 of the following track: "Solid as a rock" By Ashford & Simpson If you do, I would be very grateful if you could email me with it? Many thanks Matt-UK Abu Lo (04/09/2005 08:50:06) Mr. 1980, Hold on. I thought I explained; this man is not just an aquaintance. He is presently, to my understanding SW's Publicity Manager or something like that. I said also that his name appears in the credits of nealy every LP Stevie made from 1970 to 1980. I'm an aquaintance. I thought you may have some link to or with the organization, in as far as everything has an organization over there. But then again, if I'm asking too much, forgive me. I'm just trying to pull some pieces together. I'm not one to make believe. I know that leaves are green. They only turn to brown...when Allah Wills... jean paul (03/09/2005 16:20:10) As regarding Nate James, i've heard the cover of Lately. I have to say that i expected something more, since i heard so good about Nate. I think that his voice was not up to the difficulties of the song (which are many, as you all know), or maybe he wasn't in the right mood this night when he recorded this live version of Lately. By the way it could be interesting if Nate will decide to record some other Stevie's song. Mr. 1980 (03/09/2005 16:19:12) Abu Lo, I'm not giving you an ice job. I have not recieved any more information about Ira "Gramp" Tucker, and so I'm afraid I cannot help you locate him at this time. When it comes to answering questions about Stevie, I'm your man, but I'm afraid tracking down aquaintances of Mr. Wonder is not something I am able to do, so you'll have to look elsewhere. That, unfortuantely, is not my area of expertice. I'm sorry. Cliff (03/09/2005 14:11:29) Guys, If any of you haven't seen 'That's what friends are for', check this out: http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/wonder_stevie/artist.j html Stevie's presence here is huge. Cliff (03/09/2005 09:35:26) Abu Lo, The point you're making is exactly the point I was making, i.e. 'can they sing?'. As I said, the music production of Nate James' tracks is quite good, but IMPO (I've seen clips of him singing live as well), his vocals aren't quite up to scratch (NB. just my view). Abu Lo (03/09/2005 09:24:58) Don't blame or underrate anyone for trying to imitate SW. What else are they going to do? I just spent the night listening to a playlist of top 40s which encluded some Arab arists and everybody, if they are taling about love, were doing Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder or Jonny Mathis. Stevie was put here on this earth to be imitated and emulated. He is a musician's musician, so they can't help but fall into to his groove or blow some of his licks. The point is, "can they blow?" Mr 1980, are you giving me an ice job because I said something wrong? I've been a broadcaster for nearly forty years and it feels strange to think nobody's listening. BaldEagle (02/09/2005 16:35:21) Whoever had the live version of "I Can See The Sun" that Stevie recorded, PLEASE send it to me as I had a computer problem and lost it! Let me know- THANKS!!!!!!! James (02/09/2005 15:41:57) That live recording of Lately by Nate James was done at 3:00AM and the DJ was a particularly annoying person. Dont base your opinion of him on that. The album 'Set The Tone' is a 'full' album. Many of the songs have that Stevie Vibe to them. 'Get This Right' has a complicated bass line like many of Stevies stuff does. I accept that the album is a bit too 'pop' and doesnt compare to Stevies albums, but guve the guy a fair go. Debut album - perhaps he has cleverly sacrificed some of his own style to appeal to the masses this time. Once his name is out there he will have the freedom to do better stuff. Keep your eyes out for him. Cliff (02/09/2005 01:29:15) James, I tend to agree with Ben F. These are some views I aired in July: (18/07/2005 19:40:41) By the way, anybody heard of Nate James (check this out: www.natejames.com). He's supposedly the newest 'real/neo/soul' artist in the UK (British mom, American dad), and being hyped as an answer to Maxwell, Musiq etc, AND influenced by Marvin, Stevie etc. (er.... big shoes to fill, after just one single). Anyway, I checked him out, and though his tracks sound quite contemporary, I feel he needs to bone up considerably on his vocal chops - Maxwell sings him out of the park! Still, he's young and new; let's see how he does... (18/07/2005 19:44:30) Last word about Nate James: I've just listened to a live 'in-the-studio' version of Stevie's Lately - sorry I even mentioned him on this forum.... |
